If I Only Knew
Imagine being able to start your work week knowing exactly when and how a serious accident was going to occur on your worksite. I’m talking about one that ends with someone in the hospital and out of work for weeks or even death. What would you do?
Why am I even asking a stupid question like that? We all know what you would do. You would do whatever it took to prevent that accident.
OK.Let’s try another one. Imagine being able to see years into the future and you see yourself sitting in the doctors’ office hearing that you have a serious lung disease that will end your life in the next 3 months.
And the cause of that death sentence? All those years you worked in that factory refusing to wear proper respiratory protection to minimize your exposure to products that clearly stated on their Safety Data Sheet (SDS) they contained chemicals that, if inhaled in large quantities over time, could cause a serious lung disease. What would you do?
Thinking about it, this one has a couple of options you might consider.
- 1.You might consider another job.
- 2.If another job was not an option, you would prevent exposure by making sure you wore proper respiratory protection.
Alright, this is the last one. Imagine coming to work today knowing that others in your industry, or even your company, have been seriously injured or died because of a workplace accident that could have been easily prevented by using safe work practices.
What would you do?
Employee QuickTip
Do you have that special gift of being able to see the future?
I didn’t think so.
Don’t let that stop you from doing everything you can to protect you and your coworkers from experiencing the next serious workplace accident.
Employer/Management QuickTip
Wouldn’t it be great to see into the future?
Now that I think about it, that might be a little overwhelming and not so great after all. Even if you can’t see into the future, you do know that serious workplace accidents have happened and will continue to happen.
So, why not spend at least 5-10 minutes each day this week to help ensure your employees are protected from workplace accidents? Just a few minutes each day could help prevent that next potential serious accident.
