Stop Everything and Give Me 3 Minutes of Your Time

And please really think about what I’m about to say.

The Safety E-QuickTip for this week focuses on the idea that most accidents can be prevented by following the 4 steps defined by OSHA judges.

Despite OSHA’s existence since the 70s, serious accidents that disable and take lives still occur every day. However, not all accidents are due to human error, as we all make mistakes that can lead to accidents while working.

What I’m specifically referring to are accidents that occur because someone decides not to listen, ignores warnings, or believes they know better than proven facts, such as the importance of seat belts in saving lives.

Various statistics highlight the importance of working safely and using safety equipment properly, as they prevent accidents, save lives, and save money.

Instead of making excuses like cost concerns, claiming safety equipment is more dangerous than working without it, or believing workplace safety is simply common sense, we can make a significant difference in the next year by prioritizing workplace safety.

By focusing on workplace safety, we can aim for it to be the safest year ever for employees, ultimately reducing the high costs associated with workplace accidents.

Implementing these changes is not a daunting task. It requires everyone in the company, from top to bottom, to work together and make it happen.

However, I don’t expect you to spend countless hours on safety next year, as doing so would set your company up for failure. Instead, I urge you to establish four basic steps that are acceptable to all OSHA judges as a reasonable way to protect employees from workplace hazards.

Once you see the 4 steps, you’ll understand how they will help prevent accidents in the workplace. They are that easy to understand.

If you’re interested in learning more about these four steps and understanding how OSHA judges rule on cases based on them, I’ll provide more information next week.

Employee QuickTip

For you to benefit from workplace safety, you must get behind it and be a part of it.  You can’t expect your company to protect you if you’re not willing to protect yourself.

Employer/Management QuickTip

For years OSHA and safety consultants have made workplace safety and compliance more difficult than it has to be. If OSHA judges can look at 4 simple steps and accept them as a reasonable way to protect employees, why can ‘t everyone else?
