Workplace Hazards Are Real

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show in 2019 there were approximately 2.8 million recordable nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses for the year. That works out to more than 7,500 per day. These numbers are unchanged form 2018.

They also show that 5,333 workers died from work-related injuries, up 2% over 2018. That is just shy of 15 worker deaths per day.

Workers lost 888,200 days of work from injuries, with the average number of days lost per injury at 8.

Cases involving:

  • Sprains, strains and tears – 295,180
  • Falls, slips and trips – 244,000
  • Injuries to the back – 136,190

Those are just a few of the numbers the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publish each year.

So, why are these numbers important to you?

Because they show all of us that workplace hazards are real and have a negative effect on thousands of workers’ lives every year.

Make workplace safety a priority in 2021, so we can reduce that pain and suffering that each of these numbers represent.

Employee QuickTip

One way you can help to reduce these numbers in 2021 is by always reporting workplace hazards to your employer so they can get them corrected before they cause another workplace injury or even death.

Employer/Management QuickTip

It’s that time of year when many employers with more than 10 employees are required to complete OSHA 300 Logs and some are required to electronically submit their records.
