Start Where You Are – Go Where You Need to Be
Many companies delay implementing their safety programs, hoping to have everything in place before they commence, often leading to no action being taken.
Let’s try a different approach and start where you are.
It may sound confusing, but it’s not.
What’s your immediate safety or safety compliance need?
Are you grappling with employees bypassing specific safety requirements, which could lead to serious injury or worse because they disagree with them or find them time-consuming? Start there!
Do you need to get on a bidders list, but to do so, you must meet certain prequalification requirements? Start there!
Do certain tasks in your industry pose potential serious hazards, with new hires lacking understanding of how to protect themselves? Start there!
Do your supervisors believe that safety costs money because they don’t grasp the value of safety? Start there!
The point is, you need to start somewhere, and the best place is where you currently are. Then build from there.
It might seem a little unorthodox, but what better place to start than where you feel the most pressure, exposure, or frustration?
If you’re anything like me, that’s where you’re most motivated.
So, where are you with workplace safety and compliance right now?
Start there – then go where you need to be one step at a time, and before you know it, your safety program will be doing its job, protecting your employees, company reputation, and profits.
