Consider the Consequences

It’s been 5 years and your company has had a good run with no recordable or serious accidents, so implementing your company safety program is the furthest thing from your mind.

I get it.  Why spend money and time when it’s just working?

Your employees have done it the same way for the past 5 plus years – hopping a ladder here and there, wearing their PPE only when it’s convenient and comfortable for them, and meeting OSHA requirements when they believe it works for them and the company.

Your foremen and other management have more than enough on their plate including trying to find enough qualified employees to do the job without having to deal with workplace safety – something that everyone knows is just common sense.

You see, I understand more than you might think.

But then, just when you think things are going just the way they should be, common sense and that little bit of luck you were depending on runs out!

One of your best people who you believe always uses his/her common sense gets seriously injured or worse.

You know what I’m talking about.  If you’ve been in business or on the job for a while, we’ve all at least heard about an accident that didn’t turn out well for the employee or company.

But of course, those were companies that didn’t perform their work in a safe manner anyway, right?

Those were companies and employees who pushed the limits, cutting corners when it benefited them. We all know those companies and there’s no way your company is anything like that.

Wait a minute. Maybe their luck just ran out or the common sense they were depending on wasn’t enough.

What if they would have just taken a little time to implement that safety program that is sitting on the shelf or in their computer? Things might have turned out differently.

You see, hopping a ladder here and there, wearing PPE only when it’s convenient and comfortable for employees, meeting OSHA requirements only when it works for the employees and the company, or relying on good luck and common sense is just not enough!

We all have choices we can make when it comes to workplace safety and compliance.  Don’t make luck and common sense your choice.  Implement your company safety program in a way that protects your company’s most valuable assets: Employees, Reputation and Profits.

Even if you’ve had a good run.

Employee QuickTip

Sometimes safety just isn’t convenient. Hopping a ladder is easier than getting down and moving the ladder.  Bypassing that safety device on the piece of equipment you are using makes it easier for you to use.

But one slip and . . .  Well, you know.

Make good choices that get you home at the end of each workday.

Employer/Management QuickTip

Workplace safety and compliance is just one more thing that has been added to management’s job when there just isn’t enough time.

Make time for safety. Find something that will work for you, your company, and employees.

It’s not just the right choice – it’s the best one!
