Don’t Risk Your Life for a Moment of Fame or a Boom Box

In the blink of an eye, a simple act can turn into a life-threatening situation.

Years ago, I witnessed a young man chasing a boom box on an all-glass roof in downtown Cleveland. Just before it slid over the edge, he managed to grab it and run back up. His coworkers applauded, and it left me impressed.

Looking back, I shudder at the thought of what could have happened. The hair on my arms stands up, and chills run down my back.

Why? Because over the years, I have heard far too many stories of accidents ending in tragedy due to reckless decisions.

Imagine if both the young man and the boom box had gone over the edge that day.

Would I still have been impressed?

Would his coworkers on the roof have applauded?

I can confidently say that the answer would be no. The reality is that risking your life for a moment of fame, or a material possession is never worth it.

The fate of that young man remains a mystery to me. I can only hope that he learned from that experience and never put himself in such a dangerous situation again. As for the boom box, it likely ended up like many others from the 80s – forgotten and discarded.

Remember, you are worth more than a fleeting moment of attention or a material possession.

Don’t be that person who takes unnecessary chances. Stay safe and make smart decisions.
