If You Build It – Will They Come?
In the movie “Field of Dreams,” the line “If you build it, they will come” rings true. However, in the realm of workplace safety and compliance, the question becomes, “If you build it, will they come?”
Resistance to change often hampers the implementation of safety programs.
To mitigate this challenge, identify one management member and, if possible, an employee who embodies the characteristics of an early adopter—open to new ideas before they become mainstream.
Once the early adopter is on board, they can influence others to join the program. Despite initial resistance from some, these outliers typically follow suit to avoid standing out.
When seeking an early adopter, it’s crucial to:
- Clearly communicate the program’s purpose and gather their input for buy-in.
- Provide a step-by-step overview, highlighting the program’s benefits.
By securing one or two early adopters and mapping out an implementation plan, you can safeguard your company’s most valuable assets: employees, company reputation, and profits.
Remember, a well-structured, step-by-step approach tailored to your company’s needs is the key to a successful start.
Although this series ends here, stay tuned for a more comprehensive plan.
